Korean Slippers Sandals

You see these Korean Slippers (슬리퍼) all year round and mainly worn by middle or high school students. You might call them sandals or flip flops, but basically they are cheap plastic slippers. They are worn inside schools in order to limit the amount of dirt inside the classrooms and other areas of the schools. It’s also because in Korean homes you don’t wear shoes. Apart from inside the schools they are also commonly worn outside of school both by students and also everyday members of the public, Koreans mainly use them mainly as a quick popping out to the shops footwear or when taking out the trash. But also wear them at work, as they are more comfortable. You also sometimes see them used in traditional restaurants in the bathrooms, as you normally take your shoes off at the door.

Price; they are cheap with the ones pictured costs between just ₩3000 and ₩5000 for a pair, we’ve also seen them on sales for as little as W2000. You can buy more luxury versions made by brand names such as Adidas and Nike, but they off course are much more expensive.

Sizes

In Korea shoe sizes are unisex and are measured in mm and either go up in 5mm or 10mm spaces. These slippers (and most shoes in general) start from size 230 (US Men’s size 4) and go upto 270 (US Men’s size 10). Some places stock 280 (US Men’s size 11½), but few stock higher or lower than 230. Below 230 the styles are often different and aimed at kids. Here is a useful global shoes size comparison chart.

Here are a few different pairs which we have; include the spiky pair which is really good for blood circulation in your feet. However they do take a little getting used too.

Opinion

In our opinion they are strangely comfortable and we also wear them whilst at work. They do range in weight, from the super light to the heavy dense and heavy, so you need to find the pair that suit you best. They come in a range of different colors, we’ve personally seen Black, Blue, Yellow, Green, Purple, White, Red, Pink as well as a few combinations. However black is the most common and is the easiest to find.
