Burdock Tea (우엉차) is a popular home made drink in both South Korea as well as Japan. It has been drunk and enjoyable in one form or another for 100s of years. The main benefits of drinking Burdock tea are as follows; Weight loss, improved Blood Circulation, Relieve Constipation and some Cancer prevention properties. The taste is a little woody and slightly herbal. It’s a really nice tea and a little different from other teas on the market.
How to Make Korean Burdock Tea Step by Step guide
From start to finish, how to make burdock tea at home:
Ingredients
- Burdock Root
- Water
Process
Step 1 – Wash and then cut the burdock root into thin pieces about 5mm thick.
Step 2 – Leave the pieces in a warm place for around 24 hours until completely dry.
Step 3 – Fry the dried pieces for just a few minutes.
Step 4 – Boil the burdock pieces and then leave them in the water for at least a couple of hours. (the amount of water added will determine the strength)
Step 5 – filter out the burdock pieces and enjoy your home make Korean burdock tea.

I bought a bag of dried tea at a market thinking it was Oolong tea (우엉 sounds very similar to Oolong) It actually tastes quite nice. I didn’t know the burdock root was fried after drying.
