Korean Fish Pancakes also known as 동태전 (DongTaeJun) are pretty popular here in South Korea. They are either eaten as a side dish or as part of a main meal. Korean Fish Pancakes are quite similar to battered fish such as in Fish and Chips. They are simple and quick to make plus they are really tasty. Here is our basic recipe and guide (with pictures):
You will need the following to make Korean Fish Pancakes (동태전):
- Small fillets of any white fish (Cod, Haddock, Pollock etc)
For the Batter:
- Spring Onion
- Salt (only a little)
To make the batter; simply cut up the vegetables and mix with the egg and salt.
Here is our picture step-by-step guide to making Korean Fish Pancakes (동태전):
#1 – Cover the fish in flour.
#2 – Mix the batter in a bowl and then dip the fish into the batter.
#3 – Carefully put the battered Fish into a hot lightly oiled pan.
#4 – Cook until golden brown, around 5-10minutes the thinner the fish the less cooking time.
They are best enjoyed with some light Soy Sauce and maybe a little Soju or Makkoli on the side 😉
