For this weeks Modern Seoul KPOP Song of the Week we’ve chosen “Joah” (좋아) by Jay Park (박재범). It was released back on April 9th and has amassed just short of one million views on Youtube. Here are our reasons for choosing “Joah” for our song of the week:

  • Firstly the song has a more soulful and western sound, although mainly in Korean.
  • Secondly the video shows nicely some of Jay Park’s B-Boy background as well as a slight storyline.
  • Finally the use of English is well placed by not overpowering.
  • On the negative side; the video (a the song slightly) does remind us a little of a Justin Bieber song. Nothing against Justin but it’s not KPOP 🙂
