This weekend is round 9 of the Korean K League Classic 2013 and after a busy set of midweek tie many teams are either looking to improve or extend their fortunes. This weekend features 7 games 4 on Saturday and 3 on Sunday (fixtures listed above). Here is a brief preview of each plus our prediction:
K League Classic Round 9:
Jeonbuk Motors vs. Pohang Steelers (Saturday 2pm)
Both teams come into this game having played midweek AFC Champions league games, Jeonbuk Won whilst Pohang lost. However in the league Pohang are top and undeated this season. Jeonbuk on the other hand have lost 3 times already, but all away from home. We’re sitting on the fence a little here and going with a draw as either team could win.
Prediction: 1 – 1
Seongnam vs. Chunnam Dragons (Saturday 2pm)
This may not be the most glamorous tie of the round but it could prove interesting. Seongnam are currently on fire winning their last 3 games all of which were against strong opposition. However Chunnam are undefeated in 4 games and have a strong defensive record. We feel with home advantage Seongnam will win, but not by much.
Prediction: 1 – 0
Daegu vs. Jeju United (Saturday 3pm)
Daegu are currently winless, bottom of the league and have lost their last 4 games. Jeju are mid-table and have won 2 and lost 2 of their last 4 games. Sadly for Daegu fans we can’t see them gaining their first win today and Jeju should win easily.
Prediction: 0 – 2
Busan I’Park vs. Daejeon (Sunday 2pm)
Busan and Daejeon meet in one of Sundays eariler games. Busan are on good form currently 6th with 2 win and 2 draws from their last 4 games. Daejeon are not doing so well they have the worst defensive record in the league and have lost 3 of their last 4 games drawing the other game. We predict that Busan will win this one.
Prediction: 2 – 1
Ulsan Hyundai vs. Incheon United (Sunday 2pm)
This is a very interesting game between 2 teams at the top of the table. Ulsan come into the game having lost last weekend at home to in form Seongnam, however prior to that they were on good form. Incheon on the other hand won last weekend 3-1 at home vs. Jeonbuk and currently have the best away record in the league (W3-D1-L0). We feel that the game will be a draw but a good game.
Prediction: 1 – 1
FC Seoul vs. Gangwon (Sunday 4pm)
Sundays final game pits the K League giant FC Seoul against one of it’s minnows Gangwon. FC Seoul finally found some league form last weekend winning for the first time 4-0 vs. Daegu. Gangwon on the other hand are still winless and are currently second bottom (13th). This game should prove an easy win for FC Seoul as they try and regain last seasons form.
Prediction: 3 – 0
K League Classic Round 9 Results
Saturday April 20th:
Jeonbuk Motors 1 – 1 Pohang Steelers
Seongnam 0 – 0 Chunnam Dragons
Daegu 1 – 1 Jeju United
Sunday April 21st:
Busan I’Park 1 – 1 Daejeon
Ulsan Hyundai 2 – 2 Incheon United
FC Seoul 3 – 2 Gangwon
Well it seems unlikely anyone could have guessed that there would have been 5 draws from the 6 games but sometimes football is a strange game. Because of the amount of draws there has been little change in the league table, FC Seoul’s win moves them upto 10th and Gangwon slip to the bottom on goal difference. Incheon move upto 2nd as Suwon didn’t play this weekend.
Our Round 9 Predictions Round Up
This week we got 3 correct results with 1 perfect score out of a possible 6. Not bad.
K League Challenge Round 6 Fixtures & Results:
This weekend also features 4 K League Challenge (K League 2) games, and as usual there are 2 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. Maybe the most interesting game involves Bucheon 1995, who could shock everyone and go top with a win away over Chungju (currently 4th).
K League Challenge Round 6 Results:
Chungju 1 – 2 Bucheon 1995
Goyang Hi 1 – 1 Sangju Sangmu
Gwangju 0 – 2 Korean Police
Anyang 2 – 2 Suwon City
In Summary, Korean Police stay top of the league on goal difference over Bucheon 1995. Whilst high spending Gwangju fall to the bottom with just 4 points from their opening 7 games (they’ve played a game extra).
