K League Classic 2013 Round 10 May 5th

This weekend is round 10 of the Korean K League Classic 2013 and is also a little different due to Children’s Day falling on Sunday. Because of this all 7 games will be played on Sunday May 5th (fixtures listed above). Here is a brief preview of each game plus our prediction:

K League Classic Round 10 (Children’s Day Weekend):

Gyeongnam vs. Chunnam Dragons (Sunday 1.30pm)

This weeks first game won’t interest the neutral much as 10th placed Gyeongnam host 11th placed Chunnam. Both teams have a strong defensive records so far this season but poor attacking records. They both also seem like draw specialists with 11 between them from 17 games. We therefore think a 0-0 draw is the most likely outcome.

Prediction: 0 – 0

Gangwon vs. Daejeon Citizen (Sunday 2pm)

An early season 6 pointer here between bottom of the league Gangwon and 12th placed Daejeon. Gangwon should have won for the first time last Sunday vs. FC Seoul but lot a 2 goal lead late in the second half. Neither side has do well either at home or away so this game is hard to call, we’re going for a boring 1-1 but it could well be a 5-5 classic (but it’s unlikely).

Prediction: 1 – 1

Jeonbuk Motors vs. FC Seoul (Sunday 2pm)

Two of the K League Giants meet in one of two big games this Sunday afternoon. Jeonbuk currently in 6th have struggled on the road so far this season but have looked good at home. FC Seoul on the other hand seem to have finally woken up with 2 wins in as many games (although the Gangwon win was hard earned). We feel that Jeonbuk will edge this one but it should be a great game.

Prediction: 2 – 1

Suwon Bluewings vs. Incheon United (Sunday 2pm)

This seasons surprise outfit Incheon United who are currently exceeding everyone’s expectations (even their fans) by sitting in 2nd place. Travel to 3rd placed K League Classic Giant Suwon Bluewings in the 2nd big game this weekend. Both teams are on good form and both have strong home and away records, so we’re going to sit on the fence and predict a draw.

Prediction: 2 – 2

Daegu vs. Busan I’Park (Sunday 3pm)

If you just look at the league table 13th placed Daegu vs. 7th placed Busan may seem like a likely away win. However we disagree, although Daegu are winless so very this season their home form has been good (W0-D3-L1). Whilst Busan have a poor away record (W0-D2-L2). So we’re going for a score draw.

Prediction: 1 – 1

Jeju United vs. Ulsan Hyundai (Sunday 3pm)

This is an interested clash between two teams currently next to each other in the league table. Jeju are 5th while and Ulsan are 4th, due to a single extra goal difference point. However Jeju are always strong at home (W3-D1-L0 this season) and we feel that this form will continue against Ulsan, but it will be close.

Prediction: 1 – 0

Pohang Steelers vs. Seongnam (Sunday 4pm)

Sundays final game pits the undefeated K League leaders Pohang Steelers against a revived 8th placed Seongnam, who are undefeated in their last 4. This should be a close game however we feel that Pohang’s strong home form will prevail over Seongnam’s weak away form.

Prediction: 2 – 1

K League Classic Round 10 Results

Sunday May 5th:

Gyeongnam 1 – 1 Chunnam Dragons
Gangwon 1 – 1 Daejeon Citizen
Jeonbuk Motors 1 – 0 FC Seoul
Suwon Bluewings 1 – 0 Incheon United
Daegu 0 – 1 Busan I’Park
Jeju United 3 – 1 Ulsan Hyundai
Pohang 1 – 0 Seongnam

Honestly round 10 won’t live long in the memory with only 12 goals from 7 games (less than 2 per game) and 4 of those goals was in the game between Jeju and Ulsan. Still wins for Pohang, Suwon, Jeju and Jeonbuk help they all make a case for a shot at the championship. On the other hand defeat for FC Seoul leaves them wondering what apart from the Cups can they win.
This midweek all of the K League Classic teams enter the Korean FA Cup with some very interesting games happening. Including but not limited too;
Anyang (K League Challenge) vs. Suwon Bluewings
Incheon United vs. Jeonbuk Maeil (4th tier of Korean Football)
FC Seoul vs. Yeonsei University (University League)
