This weekend is round 11 of the Korean K League Classic 2013 . This weekend there are 4 games being played on Saturday and 3 games on Sunday (fixtures listed above). Here is a brief preview of each game plus our prediction:
K League Classic Round 11:
Busan I’Park vs. Pohang Steelers (Saturday 2pm)
Top of the league Pohang make the short trip down to 6th placed Busan in the first of this weekends games. Busan are currently undefeated in their last 7 games (W4-D3-L0) in all competitions, whilst Pohang are the only K League Classic team with an undefeated record all season (W6-D4-L0). Therefore we’re siding with a draw.
Prediction: 1 – 1
Ulsan vs. Suwon Bluewings (Saturday 2pm)
This is maybe the standout game of the week with current AFC Champions League Champions Ulsan hosting 2nd placed Suwon. However the form of the two teams is a little different with Ulsan losing 2 and drawing in their past 3 games, whilst Suwon have won their last 2. We feel that it will be close but Suwon will edge it.
Prediction: 0 – 1
Chunnam Dragons vs. Jeonbuk Motors (Saturday 3pm)
Chunnam got very lucky during the week edging out lower league side Gangneung in the cup 10-9 on penalties whilst Jeonbuk scored an easy win. In the league both league are doing well with Chunnam undefeated in 7 games and Jeonbuk currently in 4th place. However the overall fire and defensive power of Jeonbuk may be too much for Chunnam after such a long week.
Prediction: 1 – 2
Daejeon Citizen vs. FC Seoul (Saturday 4pm)
Just when you thought FC Seoul’s season had finally started they lose, whilst Daejeon gained a couple of valuable away points. That being said we feel that the overall power of FC Seoul will be a little too much for Daejeon to handle.
Prediction: 0 – 2
Gangwon vs. Seongnam (Sunday 2pm)
Both of these teams will be looking to improve after unconvincing victories in the cup during the week. Seongnam have only gained a point from there last 2 games whilst Gangwon are still winless and currently in the relegation zone. We feel this will be very close but we’re going to take a risk and tip Gangwon to edge it.
Prediction: 2 – 1
Incheon United vs. Jeju United (Sunday 2pm)
This is an interested clash between two teams currently in 3rd and 5th in the league table. Jeju are the higher team and scored an important win over Ulsan last week. Incheon however lost away vs. Suwon. This should be a very close game and we feel that a draw is the most likely outcome.
Prediction: 1 – 1
Gyeongnam vs. Daegu (Sunday 4pm)
Sundays final game pits two of league struggling teams against each other. Gyeongnam have a good defensive record but have found scoring hard so far this season, however Daegu are still looking for there first win and even lost during the week vs. Suwon City of the K League Challenge (K League 2). We feel that Gyeongnam will edge this one.
Prediction: 1 – 0
K League Classic Round 11 Results
Saturday May 11th
Busan I’Park 2 – 2 Pohang Steelers
Ulsan Hyundai 1 – 0 Suwon Bluewings
Chunnam Dragons 2 – 2 Jeonbuk Motors
Daejeon Citizen 1 – 2 FC Seoul
Sunday May 12th
Incheon United 0 – 0 Jeju United
Gangwon 2 – 1 Seongnam
Gyeongnam 3 – 1 Daegu
Pohang are now 4 points clear at the top of the table even though they only draw vs. Busan, although a draw was a lucky outcome. Ulsan moved up to 4th and Jeju jumped up to 2nd. FC Seoul’s lucky win over Daejeon keeps them in the hunt for a top half finish. At the bottom Daegu are now 8 point away from safety and are still winless, however next weekend they faces 2nd bottom in a mid season 6 pointer.
