This midweek round 28 has the second set post-split fixtures with everyone looking for a win for differing reasons. The fixtures are listed above. (Note: Ulsan Hyundai and Gyeongnam both have bye rounds)
With the national team playing this evening vs. Croatia, many players will once again be unavailable for their clubs this round.
Here are our (very) brief previews of each game as well as predictions for this K League Classic Round 28:
K League Classic Round 28:
Championship Group
Suwon Bluewings vs. Busan I’Park (Wednesday 7.30pm)
Suwon return to K League Classic action after receiving a bye for Round 27. They host Busan I’Park in an interesting game for both sides as both are towards the bottom of the championship group and champions league football will slip after fast if they lose. Their current forms are similar but Suwon have a strong home record and so we’re siding with them.
Prediction: 3 – 1
FC Seoul vs. Pohang Steelers (Wednesday 7.30pm)
Two of the K Leagues heavyweights meet this Wednesday evening in Seoul. Both sides are missing players on international duty so neither will be majorly weakened in comparison the another. Table toppers Pohang come in with the slightly better form after beating Jeonbuk on Sunday. Therefore we’re siding with a slight and maybe surprising win from Pohang.
Prediction: 1 – 2
Incheon United vs. Jeonbuk Motors (Wednesday 7.30pm)
After this weekends defeat to Ulsan Incheon Uniteds chances of making the top 3 and earning a place in the champions league look more unlikely however a win over current 3rd placed side Jeonbuk would help greatly. Jeonbuk will also be looking to bounce back after suffering an embarrassing 3-0 defeat at the hands of Pohang at the weekend. These two sides met just over a week ago and Jeonbuk won but we feel a draw is more likely this time around.
Prediction: 2 – 2
Relegation Group
Daegu vs. Gangwon (Wednesday 7pm)
This the most interesting game in the relegation group this round and is a real 6 pointer as 2nd from bottom side Gangwon travel to 3rd from bottom side Daegu. A win for either team will give them an improved chance of survival and in Daegus case could stretch the gap between the two sides. Recent form would give Daegu the edge but anything could happen in a game like this.
Prediction: 1 – 0
Daejeon Citizen vs. Jeju United (Wednesday 7.30pm)
Bottom of the league Daejeon Citizen will be hoping to bounce back from their weekend defeat as they host Jeju United. Jeju are basically safe from the threat of relegation and therefore are playing for league position and pride. Daejeons poor form this season compered to Jeju means we’re giving the slight edge to Jeju.
Prediction: 1 – 2
Seongnam vs. Chunnam Dragons (Wednesday 7.30pm)
With Seongnam moving to Ansan at the end of the season they really are only playing for pride, as it’s highly likely they’ll be automatically relegated by the K League. Chunnam Dragons on the other hand still face the slight threat of relegation (15 points clear) and so still need a few good results to be sure. Seongnam have much the better form but it depends if they’re up for the game. We’re thinking a draw.
Prediction: 1 – 1
