For this weeks Modern Seoul KPOP Song of the Week we’ve chosen “Memory” by FTIsland. The video for this song was published on YouTube a week ago (last Sunday) and has been viewed over 290,000 times so far. Here are our reasons for choosing “Memory” for our KPOP song of the week:

  • Firstly the song is powerful and catchy, it’s likely to appeal to both Korean and International fans.
  • Secondly the video gives a nice insight into the lives and backstage environment of FTIsland.
  • Finally FTIsland are one of only a few major Pop-rock Korean bands so it’s nice to see them staying with their genre.
  • On the negative side; the song and video are a little safe and next time it would be nice if they pushed the boundaries and showed their talents more.

More Information on FTIsland

FTIsland Memory Band

FTIsland which is short for Five Treasure Island formed as a group in 2007. After 2 years with average success the bands image, lineup and branding changed and from that point they’ve gone from strength to strength. They’ve found major success in both Japan and Taiwan over the past few years, and have even released singles in Japanese. They’ve spent most of this year in Japan on tour but look to be returning to Korea for the next few months at least.
