K League Classic 2014 Round 1

Well the 3 month wait is finally over has the K League Classic returns for another season. There has been a bit of change over that time with a number of big names leaving (mainly to China), but also some new exciting players coming in, club name and ownership changes and more. This season there are 12 sides in the K League Classic each playing each other 3 times before splitting in half and playing a further 6 games, so 39 in total. A Full Preview and Details of any changes can be found HERE.

This week there are 6 games, 3 on Saturday and 3 on Sunday. All being played in the afternoon as the weather is still pretty cold. Here are brief previews of this weeks K League Classic Games;

K League Classic 2014:

Saturday March 8th:

Pohang Steelers vs. Ulsan Hyundai (2pm)

The new seasons returns with a clash between local rivals and last seasons top 2. Of course Pohang won the title in dramatic fashion scoring in the 94th minute. However this is a new season and so both sides come in with a clean slate. In our option it will be an entertaining game but a draw.

Prediction: 1 – 1

Jeonbuk Hyundai vs. Busan I’Park (4pm)

Jeonbuk Hyundai have been highly touted as this years possible team to beat. Busan on the other hand are looking at maybe a long and difficult year. Due to Jeonbuks impressive champions league 3 – 0 win over Yokohama we’re siding with them this week.

Prediction: 2 – 1

FC Seoul vs. Jeonnam Dragons (4pm)

Saturdays final game features 2012 Champions FC Seoul as they take on Jeonnam Dragons (previous Chunnam Dragons). FC Seoul are of course now without a number of big name stars including striker Dejan Damjanovic. With that being side we feel FC Seoul should have enough to see off Jeonnam.

Prediction: 2 – 0

Sunday March 9th:

Gyeongnam vs. Seongnam FC (2pm)

Sundays first game may prove important towards the end of the season in the relegation battle. Both of these sides may struggle this season (in our opinion). It’s a little tricky to predict how this one will play out, so a draw is a fair bet.

Prediction: 1 – 1

Sangju Sangmu vs. Incheon United (2pm)

Sangju Sangmu (Korean Army) won last years K League Challenge and therefore have returned to the K League Classic. Incheon United had a solid middle table 2013 season. Therefore these sides should be quite evenly matched, so once again a draw is maybe the most likely outcome.

Prediction: 0 – 0

Jeju United vs. Suwon Bluewings (2pm)

In the final of Sundays games, Jeju United host Suwon Bluewings. Both sides had forgettable 2013 seasons and will be looking to push on this year and make up for lost time. Although we feel Jeju should have a solid season, this week Suwon might prove a little to much for them.

Prediction: 1 – 2

K League Classic 2014 Round 1 Predictions Round Up

This week from the 6 games we correctly predicted 3 correct results but no perfect scores. The biggest surprise was Jeonnam’s win over FC Seoul, but this is only the first week so hopefully things will improve in the next 38 rounds.

K League Challenge

The K League Challenge season starts a little later than the K League Classic. It kicks off in 2 weeks time on Saturday March 22nd.
