K League Classic 2014 Round 8

The K League Classic has now passed the one month stage and we move into Round 8. The teams for the most part seem to have settled down nicely. Of course some teams are doing better than expected whilst others less so. Also just like last week we’re separating the K League Classic and K League Challenge into 2 separate posts. As there has now been 21 points up for grabs the League Table is starting to form and therefore for reference here is the latest K League Classic 2014 League Table, including Points and Goal Difference:

K League Classic 2014 League Table April 11th

The league table changed quite a bit during the week due to some surprise results. Ulsan Hyundai still lead the way but only on goal difference over both Pohang Steelers and Jeju United. Jeonnam Dragons, Jeonbuk Hyundai and Suwon Bluewings are all just 2 points behind. Busan I’Park lead the mid table teams which include Seongnam FC, Gyeongnam and Sangju Sangmu. A little surprisingly FC Seoul and Incheon United sit at the bottom of the table with only 1 win between them.

This weekend there are once again 6 games, 3 on Saturday and 3 on Sunday. Also all of the games are still being played in the afternoon and will be until May. A lot of these games are between teams close to or even next to each other in the league table. Here are brief previews of this weekends K League Classic Round 8 Games;

K League Classic 2014 Round 8 Previews & Predictions

Saturday April 12th:

Jeonbuk Hyundai vs. Ulsan Hyundai (2.30pm)

Saturdays first game is a battle of the Hyundai sides Jeonbuk and Ulsan. Although 4 places apart in the table there are only 2 points between them and their form is almost the same. However Jeonbuk have faced stronger opposition and their Wednesday defeat happened on the road. This will be a close game, however we feel that Jeonbuk could edge it.

Prediction: 1 – 0

FC Seoul vs. Gyeongnam (4pm)

Just like in 2013 FC Seoul are having a pretty awful start to the season. Gyeongnam also have had mixed fortunes so far, and stuffed a poor defeat vs. Pohang Steelers on Wednesday. This might not be a classic but it should at least be interesting, and we feel Seoul should edge it with the home field advantage.

Prediction: 2 – 1

Pohang Steelers vs. Jeju United (4pm)

Saturdays final game features two of the leagues in form sides as 2nd placed Pohang Steelers take on 3rd placed Jeju United. Pohang won during the week with ease 3-0 vs. Gyeongnam, whilst Jeju United made it two wins from two beating Jeonbuk 2-0. Both sides have strong home and away form and so this one is pretty even and a draw is maybe the most likely outcome.

Prediction: 1 – 1

Sunday April 13th:

Seongnam FC vs. Sangju Sangmu (2pm)

Two of the leagues bottom half sides meet in one of Sundays earlier games. Seongnam FC held on for a famous victory over league leaders Ulsan on Wednesday. Whilst Sangju Sangmu also won an important game vs. struggling FC Seoul. On paper these two sides do look like they might cancel each other out, however we feel that Seongnam might just edge it with home advantage.

Prediction: 1 – 0

Jeonnam Dragons vs. Busan I’Park (2pm)

Sundays second game two sides both looking to regain some of their early season form. Jeonnam lost a close game on Wednesday vs. Suwon Bluewings which stretched their win less run to 3 games. Busan drew an interesting game 0-0 vs. Incheon United extending their win less run to 4 games. Both sides need a win and a little bit of luck, and we feel that they might cancel each other out.

Prediction: 1 – 1

Incheon United vs. Suwon Bluewings (4pm)

In the final game of the weekend bottom side Incheon United take on 6th placed Suwon Bluewings. Incheon United drew 0-0 for the 3rd game running and extended their goalless run to 545mins. Suwon Bluewings won a close game at home vs. Jeonnam Dragons, giving them a 3 game undefeated run. Suwon have a poor away record and Incheon have a poor overall record and so this one sadly looks like it will be decided by a single goal, and you’d think Suwon would be the ones to score.

Prediction: 0 – 1
