K League Classic 2014 Round 16 July 19th

The K League Classic is now the main and basically only source of competitive football (with the World Cup finishing). Some sides have started this summer part of the season well, whilst others have looked a little slow and lacking any cutting edge. So this weekend should prove interesting.

K League Classic League Table

As there has now been 15 games played and everybody has played each other at least once and the table to starting to take shape. So for reference here is the latest K League Classic 2014 League Table; including Games Played, Points and Goal Difference:

K League Classic 2014 League Table July 19th

The league table is starting to form with a few teams pulling away at the top and a few falling behind at the bottom. Pohang Steelers still lead the way at the top, with Jeonbuk, Jeonnam and Jeju following closely behind. Suwon and Ulsan complete the top half. FC Seoul are slowly climbing the table in 7th, and are closely followed by Sangju Sangmu (Korean Army). Seongnam, Busan, Gyeongnam and Incheon United complete the table at the moment.

K League Classic 2014 Round 16 Previews & Predictions

This weekends games are split over both Saturday (4 games) and Sunday (2 games). Of course all of the games are being played in the evening, so the players don’t have to deal with the 30c plus daytime Korean Summer. Here are brief previews of the K League Classic Round 16 Games;

Saturday July 19th:

Jeonnam Dragons vs. Seongnam FC (7pm)

The game of the week features 3rd placed Jeonnam Dragons hosting 9th placed Seongnam FC.
Jeonnam have won 3 of their last 5 games and have a solid home record.
Seongnam sadly haven’t won in 4, but did win in the FA Cup during the week vs. Gwangju.
Jeonnam are favorites going into this one.

Prediction: 2 – 0

Suwon Bluewings vs. Incheon United (7pm)

Saturdays 2nd game is between 5th placed Suwon Bluewings and bottom club Incheon United.
Suwon have had mixed form lately with 1 win, 1 draw and a defeat in their last 3 games.
Incheon United have shown signs of improvement drawing their last 2 games, but their attacking options still look weak.
Suwon will expect to win this one, but it will be close.

Prediction: 1 – 0

Gyeongnam vs. Ulsan Hyundai (7pm)

Saturdays 3rd game struggling Gyeongnam (11th) host 6th placed Ulsan Hyundai.
Gyeongnam have lost their past 2 games and haven’t won since the end of the March.
However Ulsan have also lost their previous 2 games and seem to be on a bad run.
This one looks like a draw that really either side could win.

Prediction: 1 – 1

Jeju United vs. FC Seoul (7pm)

The final Saturday game comes from the holiday island of Jeju, as Jeju United (4th) host FC Seoul (7th).
Jeju United won last weekend and haven’t lost since the middle of April.
FC Seoul have finally found some form and are unbeaten in 4 games.
Sadly this one have draw written all over it, but it could be a diamond in the rough.

Prediction: 0 – 0

Sunday July 20th:

Pohang Steelers vs. Busan I’Park (7pm)

The first of Sundays games features league leaders Pohang Steelers hosting 10th placed Busan I’Park.
Pohang are unbeaten in their last 4 league games, but did lose in the cup during the week on penalties vs. FC Seoul.
Busan I’Park haven’t won in 6 games now, but unlike Pohang progressed in the cup during the week.
Pohang will be heavy favorites going into this game.

Prediction: 3 – 1

Jeonbuk Hyundai vs. Sangju Sangmu (7pm)

The final game of the weekend has 2nd placed Jeonbuk Hyundai hosting 8th placed Sangju Sangmu (Korean Army).
Jeonbuk are unbeaten in 4 games and even beat Hyundai rivals Ulsan in the Cup during the week.
Sangju lost last weekend for the first time in 4 games, but like Jeonbuk won in the cup during the week.
Jeonbuk should have the slight edge but it will be close.

Prediction: 2 – 1
