The K League Classic is now the main and basically only source of competitive football (with the World Cup finishing) in Korea at least. Because of the Park Ji Sung all star game last weekend, most players have had at least a week to rest up before this round of fixtures.
K League Classic League Table
As there has now been 17 games played and everybody has played each other at least once and the table to starting to take shape. So for reference here is the latest K League Classic 2014 League Table; including Games Played, Points and Goal Difference:
The league table didn’t see any major changes between rounds 15 and 16. Jeju moved up to 3rd and Seongnam moved up to 8th. FC Seoul also closed the gap between the two halves to just 3 points. Incheon are also only 2 points away from the relative safety of 11th place.
K League Classic 2014 Round 18 Previews & Predictions
This weekends round of games are split evenly between Saturday and Sunday, with all but one game starting at 7pm. Here are brief previews of the K League Classic Round 18 Games;
Saturday August 2nd 2014:
Sangju Sangmu vs. Seongnam FC (7pm)
This weekends first game is between two sides fighting to escape the bottom half Sangju (9th) vs. Seongnam (8th).
Seongnam won their last game, their first win in 7 games.
Sangju Sangmu have lost their last 3 games.
This two sides are evenly matched and a draw looks a likely outcome.
Prediction: 0 – 0
Incheon United vs. Ulsan Hyundai(7pm)
Saturdays 2nd game in between bottom side Incheon United and 6th placed Ulsan Hyundai.
Incheon United have the worst home form in the league and have only won once this season. But have only lost 1 in 4.
Ulsan only have 1 win their last 5 games.
This will be very close, and once again a draw looks a likely outcome.
Prediction: 1 – 1
Busan I’Park vs. Jeju United (7.30pm)
Saturdays last game is between 10th placed Busan I’Park and 3rd placed Jeju United.
Busan I’Park haven’t won in 8 games and have lost their last 2 games.
Jeju United have maybe the best form in the K League, as they are unbeaten in 9 games.
Jeju will go into this one favorites.
Prediction: 1 – 2
Sunday August 3rd:
Suwon Bluewings vs. Pohang Steelers (7pm)
Sundays first game is a top half clash between 5th placed Suwon Bluewings and leaders Pohang Steelers.
Suwon have only one defeat in their previous 6 games, winning 3 of them.
Pohang Steelers have won two of their previous three games and have the league best goalscoring record.
Honestly this looks very close on paper, but we’re going to give the slight edge to Pohang.
Prediction: 0 – 1
Jeonbuk Hyundai vs. Jeonnam Dragons (7pm)
Sundays second game is between 2nd placed Jeonbuk Hyundai and 4th placed Jeonnam Dragons.
Jeonbuk are unbeaten in 6 games, but could only draw last weekend vs. Ulsan.
Jeonnam lost their previous game vs. Jeju, but did win their previous 3 games.
Although this will be close we see Jeonbuk edging this one.
Prediction: 2 – 1
Gyeongnam vs. FC Seoul (7pm)
The final game of this weekend is between 11th placed Gyeongnam and 7th placed FC Seoul.
Gyeongnam have lost their last 4 games and haven’t won since the end of the March.
FC Seoul are unbeaten in their last 7 games (both league and cup) and still have a chance of making the top half.
This one looks like it’s Seoul’s to lose.
Prediction: 0 – 2
