South Korea like any footballing nation has an exciting cup. The FA Cup of Korea has been running since 1970 and has a proud history. Although most K League sides focus on the league and sadly cup games are renowned for their low attendances, they can produce some shocks and the interest is building. This year the competition started in March and had a record number of teams enter 72. Teams still in the competition even at this Quarter Final stage include one University side, one amateur teams and one team from the K League Challenge (2nd tier).
All games are being played on Wednesday August 13th and if scores remain even at full time, extra time and penalties are used to determine the winners.
KFA Korean FA Cup 2014 Quarter Final Fixtures & Previews
Of course due to the range of sides and it’s also possible sides will use weakened teams, makes full previews and predictions is difficult;
Jeonbuk Hyundai vs. Gangneung City @ 7pm
Jeonbuk Hyundai are currently top of the K League Classic (top tier) and Gangneung City are 5th in the National League (3rd tier). Both sides are on strong form winning most of their recent games.
Sangju Sangmu vs. Gangwon @ 7pm
Sangju Sangmu are currently 8th in the K League Classic (top tier), whilst Gangwon are 3rd in the K League Challenge (2nd tier). Sangju Sangmu have been struggling recently, however Gangwon have been doing well of late winning 3 of their last 4 games.
Busan I’Park vs. FC Seoul @ 7.30pm
Busan I’Park at the moment are 11th in the K League Classic (top tier), whilst FC Seoul are 8th also in the K League Classic. Busan I’Park are on some awful league form, and so the cup might be a welcome distraction. FC Seoul are pretty inconsistent, but did beat Busan at the weekend 2-0.

The final game features Seongnam FC who are 10th in the K League Classic (top tier) and Yeungnam University (U Leauge). This is the first game Yeungnam face a K League side having previous only played fellow University and Amateur sides so far.
