The K League Classic moves into the 23rd round of the season, this weekend there are a number of interesting games. August has been a busy month as all teams are playing at least 5 games each.
K League Classic League Table
As there has now been 22 games played (2 thirds of the main season) and everybody has played each other twice and the table to starting to take shape. So for reference here is the latest K League Classic 2014 League Table; including Games Played, Points and Goal Difference:
The league table does make for interesting reading and there are a number of tight areas. At the top Jeonbuk and Pohang are starting to pull away from the rest. With Suwon, Jeonnam and Jeju battling for the Champions League places. Ulsan only a few points behind them. FC Seoul are still trying to get back into the top half. There’s then a 10 point gap to 8th placed Incheon who lead a group of 5 sides who make up the relegation battle. Sangju, Seongnam, Busan and finally Gyeongnam complete the picture.
K League Classic 2014 Round 23 Previews & Predictions
This weekends round of games are equally split between Saturday and Sunday, and all games are in the evening or late afternoon. Here are brief previews of the K League Classic Round 23 Games;
Saturday August 30th 2014:
Gyeongnam vs. Suwon Bluewings (7pm)
This Saturdays first game is between bottom club Gyeongnam and 3rd placed Pohang Steelers.
Gyeongnam held Pohang last weekend and have only 1 loss in their previous 5 games.
Suwon have only 1 win from their previous 4 games.
This one looks like a draw on paper but it really could go either way.
Prediction: 1 – 1
Incheon United vs. Busan I’Park (7pm)
Saturdays 2nd game is between 2 relegation battling sides 8th placed Incheon United and 11th placed Busan I’Park.
Incheon United haven’t done well in their previous couple of games, but did win the 3 before that.
Busan I’Park have only 1 win in 13 games.
Incheon United will be slight favorites, but don’t always play well at home.
Prediction: 2 – 1
Sangju Sangmu vs. Seongnam FC (7pm)
Saturdays final game is another relegation 6 pointer as 9th placed Sangju Sangmu take on 10th placed Seongnam FC.
Sangju Sangmu have only 1 win from their last 8 games.
Seongnam have lost 3 games and of their last 5games and they are the leagues lowest goalscorers with only 14 goals.
This one again looks close on paper, however we feel Sangju may edge it.
Prediction: 1 – 0
Sunday August 31st 2014:
Ulsan Hyundai vs. Pohang Steelers (5pm)
Sundays first game is between 6th placed Ulsan Hyundai and 2nd placed Pohang Steelers.
Ulsan have lost 2 but have won 3 of their previous 5 games.
Pohang Steelers have won 2 of their previous 5 games.
This is a local derby and therefore it’s close to call, however Ulsan will have home advantage.
Prediction: 3 – 2
FC Seoul vs. Jeju United (6pm)
Sundays second game is between 7th placed FC Seoul and 5th placed Jeju United.
FC Seoul have only lost once in their last 11 games, and processed in the ACL during the week to the semi-finals.
Jeju United have 1 win in 5.
FC Seoul maybe tired but will be favorites for this one.
Prediction: 2 – 1
Jeonnam Dragons vs. Jeonbuk Hyundai (7pm)
The final game of this weekend is between top sides 4th placed Jeonnam Dragons and leaders Jeonbuk Hyundai.
Jeonbuk lose for the first time in 11 games last weekend.
Jeonnam have won their last 2 games.
Jeonnam are average at and the Jeonbuk are ok away, this looks like a draw at least on paper.
Prediction: 1 – 1
