The K League Classic moves into the 36th round of the season, the midway stage of the split games. At this stage of the season the top 6 and bottom 6 will play each other 1 more time. The top 6 are aiming for a top 3 Champions League place as of course Jeonbuk claimed the 2014 K League Classic Title last weekend. On the other hand the bottom 6 are trying to avoid bottom spot and relegation, as well as 11th placed the relegation playoff place.
K League Classic League Table
As there has now been 35 games played (3 remaining) and we’ve pasted the leagues end of season split. Here for reference here is the latest K League Classic 2014 League Table; including Games Played, Points and Goal Difference:
The league table does make for interesting reading and there are a number of tight areas. To make it a little easier we’ve split the preview by top and bottom.
Championship Round: Jeonbuk won the title just weekend with 3 games in hand but the 2 champions league places are still a realist possibility for Suwon, Pohang, FC Seoul and even Jeju United.
Relegation Round: Sangju Sangmu are currently bottom 3 points from 11th and 5 points from safety. Seongnam are now down in 11th placed. Gyeongnam, Incheon United and Busan are all still be dangerous positions but they have their own fate in their hands.
K League Classic 2014 Round 36 Previews & Predictions
This weekends round of games are split evenly across Saturday and Sunday. Games of course now take place in the now cooler (compared to the summer) afternoons. Here are brief previews of this weekends K League Classic Round 36 Games;
Saturday November 15th 2014:
Jeonbuk Hyundai vs. Pohang Steelers (2.30pm) – Championship Round
Saturdays only Championship Round game is between champions Jeonbuk Hyundai and 3rd placed Pohang Steelers.
Jeonbuk have won 7 in a row and won the league last weekend.
Pohang Steelers have just 1 win in 9 games.
Jeonbuk might be just playing for fun now, but we feel they’ll still win this one.
Prediction: 2 – 1
Incheon United vs. Sangju Sangmu (2pm) – Relegation Round
Saturdays first early game is between league bottom club Sangju Sangmu and 9th placed Incheon United.
Incheon United have picked up just 8 points from their last 6 games.
Sangju Sangmu have lost 4 of their last 6 and only drew last weekend.
Both of these sides aren’t doing great at the moment, so a draw seems likely.
Prediction: 1 – 1
Busan I’Park vs. Jeonnam Dragons (2pm) – Relegation Round
Saturdays 2nd relegation round game is between 8th placed Busan I’Park and already safe 7th placed Jeonnam Dragons.
Busan I’Park have 5 wins and 3 draws from their last 8 games.
Jeonnam have only won 1 in 11 and seem to be looking to next season already.
Busan will be slight favorites to win this one.
Prediction: 2 – 0
Sunday November 16th 2014:
FC Seoul vs. Ulsan Hyundai (2pm) – Championship Round
Sundays first game is the “Super Match”, the derby between Suwon Bluewings (2nd) and FC Seoul (5th).
FC Seoul have 2 wins from their last 4 league games and are in the FA Cup final.
Ulsan have only 2 wins from their last 9 games.
FC Seoul will come into this game with a slight advantage form wise and we see them as favorites.
Prediction: 1 – 0
Jeju United vs. Suwon Bluewings (4pm) – Championship Round
Sundays last game features 5th placed Jeju United and 2nd placed Suwon Bluewings.
Jeju United have just 1 win in their last 5 games.
Suwon Bluewings were unlucky to suffer just their 2nd defeat in 14 games last weekend.
Although Jeju isn’t an easy place to visit we feel Suwon will take home the 3 points.
Prediction: 0 – 2
Seongnam FC vs. Gyeongnam (2pm) – Relegation Round
Sundays only relegation round game is between 10th placed Seongnam F and 11th placed Gyeongnam, a true six pointer.
Seongnam have just 1 win in 6 games, and have drawn their last 2 games.
Gyeongnam have 2 wins in 3 games and draw the other.
A draw looks like the most likely outcome but in these important games it could go either way.
Prediction: 1 – 1
