South Korean Dried Persimmon Tiger

During this time of year i.e. approaching Korean New Year, one thing you’ll see sold in every market, greengrocer and supermarket are Dried Persimmon (곶감). Dried Persimmon are both a healthy snack and also used in Korean remembrance ceremonies or Jesa (제사). The Jesa Ceremony is where Korean families remember ancestors by offering food, drinks and other items.

The history of Dried Persimmons in South Korea dates back 100s of years and have even featured in Folktales such as this one: “The Tiger and the Dried Persimmons” Korean Folktale Link

If you’re looking for a traditional but tasty / fruity snack, dried persimmons are well worth trying out.
