Drinking and alcohol is both big business and a pretty big part of Korean culture. Obviously Beer and Soju are the market leaders, but if you’re looking for something popular, tasty and with a kick Sparkling Seoljungmae (설중매) could be an option.
With the tag line “Let’s Spark” this Sparkling Seoljungmae is similar in taste to Maehwasu crossed with a fruity sparkling wine. The alcoholic content is 10%, so once again similar to wine. In stores / supermarkets it costs under ₩2000 (under $2) and in bars and restaurants around ₩4000 to ₩5000 (under $5), so it’s certainly affordable. It matches well with Galbi, Samgyupsal or steak. The only slight negative is that it’s sweet and maybe a deceptive in regards to alcoholic content.
Overall Sparkling Seoljungmae is very enjoyable and well worth trying out.
