Hello and welcome to this weeks Modern Seoul KPOP Song of the Week, our fourth for March 2015. Although there were a number of interesting new releases recently, we’ve chosen the new release from Girl Group Red Velvet (레드벨벳). The song is titled “Ice Cream Cake“ and it was released last Sunday March 15th. In that time it has been viewed around 4 million times on the SMTOWN YouTube Channel. Here are our reasons for choosing “Ice Cream Cake” for our KPOP song of the week:
- Firstly the song is catchy and flows at a nice pace. The lyrics are also cute with a fun twist.
- Secondly the video has a high production value and links well to the song as it’s fun and cute.
- Finally Red Velvet debuted last year and have been high touted as the next big KPOP Group. This release helps their case.
- On the negative side; it feel a unoriginal and lacking a little x factor.
