The next entry into our Korean Snack Series are Homeplus Somunnan Instant Noodles / 소문난라면, which is also our second on Instant Noodles. Instant Noodles are big business here with rows and rows of them in the supermarkets and range from budget to gourmet. Once again although not a snack like potato chips or candy, Instant Noodles fill in the space between main meals and therefore are very similar, and that why they’ve made this short series.
The Instant Noodles we’re looking at today are the Homeplus brand Somunnan Instant Noodles (소문난라면). Somunnan or 소문난 translates into English as Notorious, however these noodles have nothing to do with current UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor. Here are our thoughts;
Thoughts: The flavor is spicy with a slight meaty flavor, the dried vegetables add color but not much in terms of flavor. The noodles and other elements are good quality when considering the price. However the amount of Saturated Fat is high at 12g, so this isn’t a very healthy snack. The price was just ₩2,500 for a pack of 5, so only ₩500 each. Which makes it extremely good value for money and a cheap lunch. Also it’s easy to make just add the ingredients to water and bring to a boil. Some people add an egg or other ingredients, which help add to the dish but they’re not needed. Finally these noodles make a nice snack or lunch when you are short on time or money, but they’re not very healthy.
