Hello and welcome to this weeks Modern Seoul KPOP Song of the Week, our second for October 2015. Although there were a number of very interesting new releases this week, we’ve chosen the solo release from KPOP Superstar by Taeyeon. The song is titled simply “I” and it was released on Tuesday October 6th. Since then the video has been viewed around 5.5 million times on the SM Town YouTube Channel. Here are our reasons for choosing “I” for our KPOP song of the week:
- Firstly the song is highlights Taeyeon’s vocal range fantastically, it’s powerful but also relaxed and sweet at the same time. The cameo by Verbal Jint just adds to the final product.
- Secondly the video has a nice little story with a free and hippyish feel about it.
- Finally Taeyeon is one of the lead singers from KPOP Supergroup Girl’s Generation and therefore has a huge following and status.
- On the negative side; one of the key lines from the song is “My Life is a Beauty”, which sounds so strange and just wrong. But this is a minor grievance.
