During 2015 two new Korean beers entered the already busy market, The Premier OB Weizen & Premier OB Dunkel. Produced by Oriental Brewery which is part of the AB Inbev Company. Oriental Brewery or OB is one of the two big brewers in South Korea along with Hite-Jinro and produces beers such as: OB Golden Lager & Cass as well as The Premier OB Pilsner, which has set the benchmark for these beers. Also they are claim “Brew Master Selection”, here are our thoughts;
Premier OB Weizen has a Weizen style appearance when poured and it also has a healthy alcohol percentage at 5%. The taste is as good with a typical Weizen style flavor. It’s a step above regular Korean lager but still behind import Weizen beers such as Paulaner. The price is also similar to other regular Korean beers. Worth trying if it’s discounted or again limited options.
Premier OB Dunkel it has an expect dark appearance and pleasant aroma. In our option it’s better than the only other Korean Dark Beer called Stout, in taste, appearance and general quality. Like the Weizen it has a 5% alcohol percentage and is a similar price to other Korean beers. Once again worth trying, but it’s nothing amazing.
Overall they’re both solid beers and step forward for Korean domestic brews. The price a positive but with the huge numbers of imported beers around they fall in the middle of the pack. Worth trying, but don’t go out of your way to find them.
