After an exciting midweek round of action the K League Classic continues this weekend with 6 more interesting tie. The weather forecast isn’t looking good, so it’s not a bad idea to relax at home and enjoy the games on TV. The highlight game of this round is the bottom vs. top clash on Sunday evening between Suwon FC and Jeonbuk Hyundai. Can bottom side Suwon upset undefeated Jeonbuk?
K League Classic 2016 League Table Update
As we move into the hot summer months the league title has taken shape. Jeonbuk now have a five point lead at the top over FC Seoul. With Jeju United and Ulsan Hyundai in 2nd through 4th. There are only 4 points separating 3rd and 8th, so the mid-table is certainly tight.
At the other end of the table, Suwon FC are still bottom, and 3 points point behind Incheon United and Jeonnam Dragons. With Suwon Bluewings a little above them.
K League Classic 2016 Round 18 Previews & Predictions
This round of games take place evenly over Saturday (3) and Sunday (3). All of the games take place in the early evening. Here are our brief previews and predictions for the 18th round of 2016 K League Classic games;
Saturday July 2nd 2016:
Ulsan Hyundai vs. Suwon Bluewings (7pm)
This weekends first game features Ulsan Hyundai and Suwon Bluewings. Ulsan were awful during the week losing 4-0 to local rivals Pohang Steelers. Suwon Bluewings also lost during the week, pushing them closer to the relegation battle. Ulsan won the previous encounter 4-2 and this matchup does have a history of goals. We see Ulsan winning, but Suwon making a game of it.
Prediction: 3 – 2
Sangju Sangmu vs. FC Seoul (7pm)
Sangju Sangmu lost for the first time in 4 games during the week against Incheon, but had looked impressive before hand. FC Seoul also lost during the week to Seongnam, their 2nd defeat on the bounce. Seoul won the reverse fixture 4-0 earlier this season, and have an impressive record over Sangju winning 20 of the 31 previous games. This is a close one on paper, but we see Seoul coming back and regaining some winning form.
Prediction: 0 – 1
Jeonnam Dragons vs. Seongnam FC (7pm)
Jeonnam Dragons have been a little inconsistent recently winning 2 but also losing 2 of their last 4 league games. Seongnam FC on the other hand looked much improved during the week beating FC Seoul away 3-1. This matchup has ended in a draw 4 of the last 6 times, but we honestly see Seongnam continuing their solid away form and taking home another 3 points.
Prediction: 1 – 2
Sunday July 3rd 2016:
Incheon United vs. Jeju United (6pm)
Sundays early game comes from the Incheon Football Stadium and seeing hosts Incheon United take on Jeju United. Incheon are currently second from bottom by did pick up a surprise victory over Sangju during the week. Jeju have only 1 win in 4 games, but are still in 3rd place. Jeju last beat Incheon away back in 2010, however they did win in March this year 3-1 (in Jeju). Close game on paper and sadly a draw seems the likely outcome.
Prediction: 1 – 1
Gwangju vs. Pohang Steelers (7pm)
Gwangju pulled off on impressive 2-0 win on the road against Suwon Bluewings on Wednesday. However Pohang looked even better as they hammered Ulsan 4-0 at the same time. There is only a single point between these sides on the league table, with the reserve fixture ending 3-3 back in March. A close one on paper and we see it ending in a draw once again.
Prediction: 1 – 1
Suwon FC vs. Jeonbuk Hyundai (7pm)
The weekends finish game is a bottom vs. top encounter as bottom side Suwon FC take on league leaders (and defending champions) Jeonbuk Hyundai. Suwon ended a 5 game losing run, by drawing down in Jeju on Wednesday evening. Jeonbuk Hyundai came from behind to Jeonnam Dragons, extending their undefeated run. Jeonbuk won the reserse fixture 3-1, and it seems likely they’ll win again this time.
Prediction: 0 – 2
