“Why” by Taeyeon – KPOP Song of the Week

Hello and welcome to this weeks Modern Seoul KPOP Song of the Week, our first for July 2016.
There have been a few interesting new KPOP releases over the past few weeks, however we’ve chosen the new release from girls’ generation star group Taeyeon. The song is titled “Why” and it was released on YouTube on Wednesday June 27th, in that short time it’s been viewed around 6million times on the SMTOWN YouTube Channel. Here are our reasons for choosing “Why” for our KPOP song of the week:

• Firstly the song mixes together excellent vocals and a summer vibe / dance tempo.
• Secondly the video has a high production value and focuses solely on Taeyeon, which is great.
• Finally Taeyeon is a key member of Girls’ Generation the biggest KPOP group (maybe ever) and so any new release will be popular.
• On the negative side; it seems a little more organic and maybe edging towards the western markets. So it might struggle long term.
