There is always a sweet feeling of satisfaction when you make anything at home over buying it. One way of making the process easier and less complicated is by buying a kit or set. Recently we tried a set for making Hotteok (호떡) or Korean Pancakes at Home. The set is produced by Beksul (who also produce other sets as well as ingredients such as sugar, flour etc). As you can tell by the parts included in the box it’s pretty simple even if you can’t read Korean, the only major downside is that the calories are high. This 400g box contains 1560kcal, so this isn’t something you want to be eating everyday. Here is the process with pictures for making Beksul Hotteok;
The Process of Making Hotteok at Home
We of course used a simple packaged set, however the process doesn’t change much if you’re making it complete from scratch. The box set is simple to use and shouldn’t take any longer than 20mins;
(1) combine the two dry ingredients together and add water.
(2) Mix until you’ve made a dough.
(3) Put the nut/sugar powder in the middle and fold in the sides.
(4) Fry over a medium heat until golden brown.
(5) Enjoy.
