The continues this coming weekend following a full round of midweek action. All 12 sides will be in action with highlights at both the bottom and top of the table. Also the weather forecast is looking hot and sunny for the most part. The highlight game of this round is the Hyundai Derby between runaway league leaders Jeonbuk Hyundai and 3rd placed Ulsan Hyundai. Interesting game on paper and a derby to boot.
K League Classic 2016 League Table Update
As we move into the mid point of the season the league table has taken shape. Jeonbuk now have an 11 point lead at the top over FC Seoul. With Ulsan Hyundai close behind in 3rd. There are only 12 points separating 4th and 11th, so the whole table is still very tight.
At the other end of the table, Suwon FC are still bottom, and 5 points point behind Incheon United in 11th.
K League Classic 2016 Round 22 Previews & Predictions
This round of games take place evenly over Saturday (3) and Sunday (3). All of the games take place in the early evening at 7pm. Here are our brief previews and predictions for the 22nd round of 2016 K League Classic games;
Saturday July 23rd 2016:
Pohang Steelers vs. Incheon United (7pm)
The weekend starts off with a clash in the bottom half. Pohang Steelers have had an awful run of form recently with 3 defeats on the bounce pushing them down to 7th place. Incheon United on the other hand have 3 wins in 5, including an impressive 3-1 win over Ulsan during the week. This will be a close game, either side could edge it so we’re siding with a draw.
*Fun Fact: The last 3 games between these sides ended 2-0.*
Prediction: 1 – 1
Sangju Sangmu vs. Gwangju (7pm)
Sangju Sangmu have been enjoying a solid first season back in the Classic following last seasons promotion. They’re currently 5th with 3 wins from 4. Gwangju are a few places below them in 8th, but only have 1 win in 10 games. Sangju Sangmu will be favorites to avenge their Children’s Day defeat.
*Fun Fact: In 13 games these sides have only drawn once.*
Prediction: 2 – 0
Jeonnam Dragons vs. Suwon Bluewings (7pm)
This is a key game at the bottom of the table as these sides sit in 10th and 9th respectively. Jeonnam Dragons have found some form recently with 2 wins and a draw from their last 3 league games. Suwon Bluewings have also looked improved with 2 wins in 3 games. Both sides will want the win to move away from the relegation battle, but we see this ending in a draw. Just as the first game ended back in March.
*Fun Fact: Jeonnam last beat Suwon Bluewings at home back in 2014, with Ahn Jong-Woo the hero on that day*
Prediction: 2 – 2
Sunday July 24th 2016:
Jeonbuk Hyundai vs. Ulsan Hyundai (7pm)
The Hyundai Derby is our highlight match of the weekend as both sides are involved to the title picture. Jeonbuk Hyundai beat FC Seoul during the week to extend their lead at the top of the table to 11 points. They’re also still undefeated this season. 3rd placed Ulsan Hyundai suffered a shock defeat at the hands of lowly Incheon United during the week and will be looking to bounce back quickly. However Jeonbuk have won 8 of their 9 home games this season and we see them winning again this coming Sunday.
*Fun Fact: Ulsan last beat Jeonbuk away back in April 2010. Also these sides will play again less than 2 weeks time on August 3rd.*
Prediction: 2 – 1
Jeju United vs. FC Seoul (7pm)
Jeju United’s poor run of form continued during the week as they played out a dull 0-0 with Seongnam. That means they’ve now gone 6 games without a win. FC Seoul also need to improve with only 1 win in 6 games, they’re now 11 points adrift of league leaders Jeonbuk. We see Seoul pulling off a narrow win, but it might not be a classic game.
*Fun Fact: In 33 games Jeju have only beaten FC Seoul 3 times.*
Prediction: 0 – 1
Seongnam FC vs. Suwon FC (7pm)
In the final game of the weekend, 4th placed Seongnam FC host bottom side Suwon FC. Seongnam have 2 wins from their last 4 games, but did look poor during the week drawing 0-0 with Jeju. Suwon FC picked up their first win in 10 games during the week, beating Pohang for the second time this season. Suwon will be missing suspended Adrian Leijer and honestly we don’t see them beating Seongnam.
*Fun Fact: Suwon FC = 14 Goals / Tiago Alves = 13 Goals*
Prediction: 3 – 1
