K League Classic 2016 Round 26 August 17th

Of course the world is still focused on the 2016 Olympic Games taking place on the other side of the World in Brazil. But the K League Classic still continues with 6 midweek games. The key game of this Wednesdays round is the bottom half clash between Suwon Bluewings and Pohang Steelers. Both sides have had disappointing seasons and face the real possibility of a relegation battle, therefore 3 points could be vital moving forward.

K League Classic 2016 League Table Update

K League Classic 2016 League Table August 16th

As we move past the mid point of the season the league table has taken shape. Jeonbuk now have a 10 point lead at the top over FC Seoul. With Ulsan Hyundai 7 points behind them in 3rd. There are only 8 points separating 3rd and 9th, so the whole table is still very tight.
At the other end of the table, Suwon FC are still bottom, and now only 5 points point behind Incheon United in 11th.

This round of games all take place on Wednesday (6). Also all of the games take place in the early evening between 7-8pm. Here are our brief previews and predictions for the 26th round of 2016 K League Classic games;

Wednesday August 17th 2016:

Jeonnam Dragons vs. FC Seoul (7pm)

The evenings early game features two in form sides, 8th placed Jeonnam Dragons and 2nd placed FC Seoul. Jeonnam Dragons have 5 wins from their last 7 games. FC Seoul have won their last 4 games on the bounce in their quest to catch leader Jeonbuk. Seoul won this fixture earlier in the season, and these sides also drew back in May. Close game on paper and we see a possible draw, partly due to the heavy number of games recently.
*Fun Fact: Jeonnam have only beaten Seoul 3 times at home in 17 games.*
Prediction: 1 – 1

Ulsan Hyundai vs. Sangju Sangmu (7.30pm)

This game features two sides who both have a chance of finishing in a champions league spot. Ulsan won for the first time in 6 games at the weekend beating bottom side Suwon 2-1. Sangju have only 1 win in 5 games, but did draw at the weekend with Seongnam. Ulsan should have the slight edge, but it will be close.
*Fun Fact: Ulsan have never lost to Sangju at home in 19 games.*
Prediction: 2 – 1

Suwon FC vs. Jeju United (7.30pm)

Bottom side Suwon FC host Jeju United on Wednesday evening. Suwon have lost their last 3 games and are now slightly adrift at the bottom of the table. Jeju United have 2 wins but also 2 defeats from their previous 4 games. Jeju beat Suwon 5-2 in this fixture earlier in the season and we see them winning again.
*Fun Fact: Suwon are the leagues lowest goal scoring this season with only 18 goals so far.*
Prediction: 1 – 2

Seongnam FC vs. Gwangju (7.30pm)

Seongnam will be looking to find some form as they take on Gwangju. Seongnam have only 1 win from their last 6 games, whilst Gwangju have only 1 defeat in their last 5, as they try to break into the top half. They also have the leagues top goalscorer Jung Jo-Gook in their squad. Seongnam beat Gwangju in this fixture back in May 2-0. This on paper is a close game, but we Gwangju pulling off a slight shock.
*Fun Fact: Gwangju last beat Seongnam back in 2012.*
Prediction: 1 – 2

Suwon Bluewings vs. Pohang Steelers (7.30pm)

This game features two of the leagues bigger sides, who’ve both had seasons to forget. Suwon have 2 wins from their last 5 games, and they lost the Super Match at the weekend. Pohang despite bringing  in some new signings only have 1 win in 7 games, dropping them into the bottom half. Suwon have the slight edge playing at home, but this will be close.
*Fun Fact: Pohang have the historical advantage over Suwon with 20 wins in 47 games.*
Prediction: 1 – 0

Incheon United vs. Jeonbuk Hyundai (8pm)

The evenings late game features sides at opposite ends of the table. Incheon United are currently deep in the relegation battle with only 1 win in 7 games. Jeonbuk are undefeated this season in the league, and have a 10point lead at the top. Incheon are the only Classic side still undefeated against Jeonbuk this season. But we see Jeonbuk winning this one.
*Fun Fact: Incheon last beat Jeonbuk at home back in 2013.*
Prediction: 2 – 2

K League Challenge 2016 Round 29

K League Challenge 2016 Round 29 August 17th

The K League Challenge season still has a fair way to go and it’s always wide open due to the playoff places. One of the standout games of this midweek round is the clash between league leaders Ansan Mugunghwa and bottom side Goyang Zaicro. Obviously both sides have had very different seasons, but this could be a banana skin for the leagues leaders.

Also Goyang Zaicro lowered the leagues lowest attendance record at the weekend, as only 182 people turned up for their game against Daegu.

Another key game on Wednesday evening features 2 playoff placed sides 2nd placed Daegu and 3rd placed Gangwon.

At the other end of the table, Goyang and Chungju are both well adrift of the rest now. But fortunately for them there is no relegation this season.
