AFC Champions League Previews and Predictions (Wednesday April 26th 2017)

Here are our brief previews for Wednesday evenings AFC Champions League games featuring K League sides as well as head-to-head (H2H) records and predictions;

FC Seoul vs. Urawa Reds 7pm

The first game of the evening comes from the Seoul World Cup Stadium as reigning K League Champs FC Seoul host J-League side Urawa Reds. FC Seoul have had a poor year in the champions league, not helped by playing in the “Group of Death”. Mixed season to the K League season also highlights a slight lack of strength in depth squad wise. Urawa Reds smashed Sydney 6-1 a couple of weeks ago and currently sit 2nd in the J-League after losing 2 straight.

Head-to-Head / H2H:
They played each other 4 times before. 1 friendly that ended in a draw, Urawa winning twice including a 5-2 victory in an earlier group game. Finally Seoul have 1 win AET last season in the knockout stages.

Prediction:
0 – 1
Seoul need to focus on the league and could give some squad players a game, this will leave the door open for Urawa to take the win and the group.

Brisbane Roar v Ulsan Hyundai @ 7pm

The second of Wednesdays games comes from the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane as A-League side Brisbane Roar take on Ulsan Hyundai. Brisbane finished their season on Sunday ending up in 3rd place, so this will be a nice post-season friendly for them. Ulsan Hyundai only looked “Champions League ready” when they beat Brisbane a few months ago 6-0, apart from that they’ve looked off the pace. The same also rings true for their K League season so far.

Head-to-Head / H2H:
They’ve played three times prior to this game, one draw and Ulsan winning twice. Including a 6-0 win a few months ago.

Prediction:
1 – 1

These sides are playing for pride, and with possible squad rotation we’re siding with a draw.
