Just a quick post sharing my experience and some important information for those renewing an F6 Visa in South Korea. I went through the process at the beginning of this month.
Normally the F6 Visa is extended by 2 years but in some cases it’s only for 1 year whilst others are given 3 years (more in top tips below).
Before doing anything remember to book an appointment at your local immigration office. It’s easy to do via the HiKorea website. For an F6 Visa it’s possible to renew 3 months before your expiry date, but a month before hand should be plenty of time.
Renewing an F6 Visa (South Korea | Jan 2018)
Firstly here are the documents required when renewing an F6 Visa in South Korea (note this information is from January 2018 and subject to change);
⭐ Application Form
⭐ Alien Registration Card (ARC Card)
⭐ Passport
⭐ Spouse’s Resident Registration Certificate (주민등록등본)
⭐ Marriage Certificate (혼인관계증명서)
⭐ 30,000원 Application Fee (can need to buy a stamp before seeing the immigration officer).
Top Tips;
⭐ If possible bring your spouse, the language barrier at immigration isn’t too bad. But it helps when trying to explain small things or making a special request.
⭐ If you or your spouse is pregnant bring a copy of the pregnancy certificate, if you have a young child their birth certificate. With this evidence you can ask for a 3 year extension.
⭐ Print everything and fill in the application form in advance. Also bring the fee in cash so you can get the stamp quickly.
⭐ If you need a new card, bring multiple passport photos, the machines there are slow and there’s normally a queue.
My Experience;
It was very easy, in and out within 15mins. In the past it took an hour or more without an appointment or I was asked for additional proof of our relationship. So be ready for anything. Finally keep in mind I’m a British Citizen and therefore the process maybe different for others.
Also Incheon Immigration isn’t the easiest place to get to so I took a SoCar. Which saved a huge of time and stress.
Finally
Although I can try and answer questions it’s maybe best to contact immigration directly if you’re unsure. The number is 1345.
Also I used this post (https://pinayseoulmate.com/2017/02/03/korean-f6-visa-extension/) it was very helpful.
Have a great day.
We went today and apparently they can ask for you housing contract (which we didn’t know we had to bring) so we have to go back in 2 weeks…
Go to know that a possible addition. Seems likely if you’ve moved not sure why you’d need it otherwise. But immigration doesn’t always work logically.
Wont they ask for the TB TEST CERTIFICATE?
That depends on nationality, but not for me (British). Also I don’t know if its required when renewing but maybe when applying.
Can i renue my f6 visa even im devorce already? But i have still the 주민등록등본 but 혼인관계증명서 i can see there that im devorce already. Is it possible that i can renue my f6 visa?
This is really a question to ask Immigration directly (Call 1345 or visit). I can’t answer as I’m not in the same position.
I’d imagine that if you have children or any other strong reason to remind in Korea, they’d extend your visa or change you over onto a more suitable visa.
Hello ,i went to immigration office for ID and applied too for extend my F6 visa .they said they will send it through mail .iam wondering for how long they will extend my visa ?
Normally it’s for 1 year.
They might extend it longer if requested. For example if you have child, are pregnant or live in a rural area.
But if you didn’t request a longer extension period, it will be most likely for 1 year.
hi, I was wondering which application form is the one to use? is it the
Korean Spouse’s Resident Registration Certificate (주민등록등본), or is there a specific form for F6 extension?
thank in advance 🙂
It’s the main application form (Integrated Application Form(Appendix Paper No.34)), just check the extension of sojourn period box.
You can download it via HiKorea (https://www.hikorea.go.kr/pt/DownLoadTemplPopupR_en.pt) to fill it out before visiting immigration.
Figured it out late that you have additional requirements, which is TB ( tuberculosis ) medical test result. Is it really necessary? I did renew my visa twice before but they did not ask me. Anyway i have F6 visa and two kids.
The TB medical test is required for certain nations, but I’m not sure which. I’m British and it wasn’t required.
The test can be done any day of the week and cheaply at a local hospital. Results available maybe within 48hrs.
Hi, is it ok to bring along the printed marriage cert which my spouse obtained from the automatic machine located outside the office? Just curious.
I believe so, but it’s best to check with immigration directly or better yet via the hotline.
Thank you so much for your helpful post! I went today, and thanks to you it was a breeze. My experience was exactly as you said it would be. I went with all of the documents in a file, and the immigration officer seemed very grateful for my preparedness(which was all thanks to you). I was in and out in less than 10 minutes!
That’s great to hear. Thank god they’ve eased at least this one element of immigration.
I currently have a F6 visa wich is due for renewal by Sept 8th 2020, but because of my Health problems, and the current Covid 19 Travel risks, I may not be able to travel bak to Korea by Sept 8th. Will the Korean government consider exceptional cases like mine to extend the renewal date until travel is safe for me.I am currently in the UK. Best REgads Brian Woodman
Call the Korean embassy or even Immigration to find out.
Honestly it isn’t a situation I can comment on as I don’t know, sorry.
Does the F6 visa has any minimum residency requirement during the visa period (i.e. if I travel outside of Korea a lot during the visa period) would I be allow to renew my F6 visa?) Do they actually check how many days I spent in Korea?
I honestly don’t know.
However as its immigration they’ll have a record of that and it maybe questioned when you try and renew your visa.
Hi there do you know how long you have to wait to receive the renewal if approved?, is it an instant stamp on your card or do they send it in the mail within a few days?
It’s done then and there.
The process takes five to ten minutes at most.
Hi! I was wondering if you had to present any documents showing certain amount of income for the renewal? Thanks!
Not a certain about of income, however you do need to submit a document proving you or your spouse have paid your taxes.
Also documents should be listed on the renewal letter sent from immigration.
