The long wait is over as domestic football is back in Korea! The K League 1 & 2 are both still a few weeks away however the AFC Champions League (or ACL) Group Stages start on Tuesday February 13th & 14th.
This season I’m taking a long streamlined approach to the ACL due to other commitments and therefore focuses just on Predictions, and only for games including K League sides. However I’ll take and like previews for other sites when possible. Here we go;
AFC Champions League Group Stage: Week One Fixtures & Predictions
Tuesday February 13th
Melbourne Victory 1 – 1 Ulsan Hyundai
I’ve gone for a draw here, Melbourne have home advantage and should be match fit as the A-League season is currently underway. However they’ve lost 3 straight. Ulsan Hyundai should be fresh but could lack match-fitness and have to deal with a long trip down to Australia.

Jeonbuk Hyundai 2 – 1 Kashiwa Reysol
Closer to home I’ve given Jeonbuk the edge here. On paper Jeonbuk look like possible favorites to win their group and maybe do a ACL KLeague double. Still they’ll be ring-rusty. Kashiwa Reysol are a strong J-League side and looked good winning their playoff game. So the game will be close.

Wednesday February 14th
Sydney FC 2 – 2 Suwon Bluewings
I’ve gone for an entertaining draw here, Sydney FC are a good side on paper and can score for fun, however the same can be said for an improving Suwon Bluewings. But sides onpaper look evenly matched and therefore a draw seems the likely outcome.

Jeju United 0 – 1 Cerezo Osaka
I’ve given the edge on the night to Osaka. Jeju United had the best ACL campaign of any K League side last season, which sadly ended a little messy. They are K League runners up, but maybe lack a little strength in depth. Cerezo Osaka won the recent Japanese Super Cup as well as last seasons Emperors Cup. Very impressive for a side playing in the 2nd tier a little over a year ago.
