K League 1: Sunday April 8th 2018 Preview / Predictions

There are 4 games in the K League 1 this Saturday;

Suwon Bluewings vs. FC Seoul (2pm)

The first game of the day is the always hyped K League Super Match between rivals Suwon Bluewings and FC Seoul. Suwon Bluewings have had a solid start to the 2018 K League season losing week 1 but bouncing back to pick up 2 wins and a draw. Their ACL experience hasn’t been so good, losing during the week 4-1 at home to Sydney FC. FC Seoul on the other hand don’t have ACL football this season and so can focus on the K League. Sadly for them that hasn’t helped them. They’ve drawn 2 and lost 2 of their opening 4 games. Last weekend they draw in the Gyeongin Derby against Incheon, a game they should have won. I see this being an interesting game with a few goals, and in the end Suwon walking away with the 3 points. Their first home super match win in the league since 2015.

Prediction: 2 – 1

Pohang Steelers vs. Jeonbuk Hyundai (2pm)

The second early game is between two of the early pace setters, Pohang Steelers and Jeonbuk Hyundai. Pohang Steelers have 3 wins and a draw from their opening 4 games and are a point ahead of Jeonbuk. Jeonbuk have played well in both the league and ACL, they’ve only dropped points week 2 against Incheon United. But seem to have learnt from that day. I see this being a close game, maybe unfairly overshadowed by the Super Match. I see it ending in a draw.

Prediction: 1 – 1

Ulsan Hyundai vs. Gangwon (4pm)

The first of the 4 o’clock kick offs features two sides having very different season in Ulsan and Gangwon. Ulsan have had an awful start to the K League season losing all 4 of their games so far and only scoring once. However they’ve played much better in the ACL and smashed Melbourne during the week 6-2, so they can score sometimes (the woeful attendance of only 834 is another matter). Gangwon have 3 wins from 4, losing for the first time this season last weekend to surprise package Gyeongnam. I’ve given the edge to Ulsan here, hopefully taking some of their ACL form into this game.

Prediction: 2 – 1

Jeju United vs. Sangju Sangmu (4pm)

The final game of the weekend in the K League 1 comes from the Orange Holiday Island of Jeju, as Jeju United host Sangju Sangmu. Jeju United had another poor week in the ACL and crashed out during the group stages. In the league they’ve not done much better with only 1 win in 4. Sangju Sangmu haven’t performed any this season losing 3 and only winning 1 of their 4 games. However they did look better last weekend vs. Jeonbuk. Overall I see Jeju winning this one and kick-starting their 2018 season.

Prediction: 3 – 1

K League 2: Sunday April 8th 2018 Predictions

The K League 2 continues on Sunday afternoon and evening with two interesting games. The highlight game is the late game which is a local derby of sorts as Seoul E-Land host Seongnam FC.

Busan I’Park vs. Gwangju (2pm)

Prediction: 2 – 0

Seoul E-Land vs. Seongnam FC (5pm)

Prediction: 1 – 3
