We’re getting to the business end of the AFC Champions League / ACL2019 group stages. All four K League sides are still in the hunt for a spot in the knockout stages, however Gyeongnam realistically have to win at least two of their remaining games. Once again this week is all K League vs. J-League, here are my predictions and quick previews.
This season I’ve kept things simple with the key match date information and a prediction for each game per game week. Fingers crossed if I have time I’ll expand into previews etc as the campaigns progress.
2019 AFC Champions League: K League Club Predictions (Week 4)
Daegu FC
Daegu FC vs. Sanfrecce Hiroshima
Prediction: Daegu FC 1-1 Sanfrecce Hiroshima
I see Daegu being able to pick up a point at home against the current J-League leaders Hiroshima. Daegu looked strong at the weekend against Pohang in the league as well as beating Suwon FC in the Korean FA Cup a little under a week ago.
Ulsan Hyundai
Kawasaki Frontale vs. Ulsan Hyundai
Prediction: Kawasaki Frontale 1 – 0 Ulsan Hyundai
Ulsan narrowly beat Kawasaki a few weeks ago and I see this game going to the J-League side. Ulsan struggled in the league this past weekend losing to Seongnam and prior to that lost to National League side Daejeon Korail in the Korean FA Cup.
Gyeongnam FC
Kashima Antlers vs. Gyeongnam FC
Prediction: Kashima Antlers 2 – 1 Gyeongnam FC
This will be a tough game for the K League side Gyeongnam, they lost a few weeks ago against the defending champions Kashima and I can’t see them bucking the trend this week. Gyeongnam played out a wild 3-3 draw this past weekend against Suwon Bluewings, highlighting possible defensive issues.
Jeonbuk Hyundai
Jeonbuk Hyundai vs. Urawa Reds
Prediction: Jeonbuk Hyundai 2-1 Urawa Reds
Jeonbuk Hyundai picked up a narrow victory over in Japan a few weeks ago and I see them doing the same again but at home. Jeonbuk might have lost to K League 2 FC Anyang in the Korean FA Cup, but looking impressive beating Sangju Sangmu 3-0 in the league on Saturday afternoon.
