This is the final week of the AFC Champions League / ACL2019 group stages. All four K League sides are still in the hunt for a spot in the knockout stages, with both Jeonbuk Hyundai and Ulsan Hyundai already securing a spot in the next round and winning their groups with a game to spare. Daegu and Gyeongnam still have strong shouts in order to advance. Here are my predictions for this weeks four games.
This season I’ve kept things simple with the key match date information and a prediction for each game per game week. Fingers crossed if I have time I’ll expand into previews etc as the campaigns progress.
2019 AFC Champions League: K League Club Predictions (Week 6)
Tuesday May 21st 2019;
Jeonbuk Hyundai vs. Buriram United
Prediction: 1-0
Shanghai SIPG vs. Ulsan Hyundai
Prediction: 2-1
On Tuesday I see a slighting boring mid-season friendly type game between Jeonbuk and Buriram as their result won’t affect the group. In the other game I see Shanghai winning, as like Jeonbuk Ulsan have nothing to gain by going out 100%.
Wednesday May 22nd 2019;
Guangzhou Evergrande vs. Daegu FC
Prediction: 1-1
Gyeongnam FC vs. Johor Darul Ta’zim
Prediction: 2-0
On Wednesday I see Daegu picking up a draw over in China which will be enough for them to progress, basically as long as they don’t lose they’ll be fine. In the other game I see Gyeongnam winning against their Malaysian opponents, however they will need Kashima Antlers to lose in order to guarantee a spot in the final 16.
