The 2019 U20 World Cup moves onto the Quarter Final stage and South Korea are now officially dark horses in the competition. They started slowly in the group stages but now hopes are high that they can push on a make history. They take on Africans Senegal in the Quarter Finals, which is maybe their toughest opponents so far.

Here is my quick preview and prediction for the game;

2019 U20 World Cup Quarter Final – South Korea vs. Senegal

(note kick off date/time is Seoul Time, not local date/time)

South Korea U20 vs. Senegal U20

(Sunday June 9th – KO 3.30am)

South Korea progressed as group runners-up, following defeat to Portugal but then wins over South Africa and Argentina. They then beat Japan 1-0 in the round of 16. Senegal topped their group beating Tahiti and Columbia, then drew against hosts Poland. They then beat African rivals Nigeria in the round of 16 2-1. South Korea have the advantage that they’ve played at the Bielsko-Biała Stadium during the group stages.

Watch out for Oh Se-Hun (Asan Mugunghwa on loan from Ulsan Hyundai), the forward has been bright so far during the competition and scored against Argentina in the group stages and then the winner against Japan last time out. For Senegal look out for forward Amadou Sagna (Cayor Foot) has four goals from four games, including a hat-trick against Tahiti and a goal against Nigeria in the round of 16.

Prediction: South Korea U20 2-1 Senegal U20 (AET)

Overall I see Korea having the slight edge, they’ve improved game after game and have gelled nicely as a team. Senegal will be a tough side to break down and therefore I can see this one going into extra time and maybe even penalties.
